Lunch Time

I wandered into the kitchen and up to the counter. I took a tray of food and walked to an almost empty table. On the table were Lily and Uncle Jeb. I sat on the other end, they seemed to be talking about something important and when I went to sit next to Jeb, he glared. So I changed my mind and went to sit on the end.
After a few minutes, Uncle Jeb and Lily left the kitchen to go back to their work. I looked around the kitchen. Had Sharon let us out late? Or had it just taken a reeeeeaaaally long time to get here? I shrugged and took a bite out of my bread.

I heard Wanda's voice and looked up. I smiled. "Hey, Wanda. Hey Ian." I realised that I wasn't late. Sharon was always on time. I realised that if there was no one in the kitchen at lunch time, there was a raid coming up. Well, that was the best option. Either that or there's some bad news.

I shrugged. If Wanda and Ian didn't know, then those options weren't right. "Unless there's a raid on soon." I tore another piece off my bread and ate it.

"Mel!" I grinned, pushing my tray to her. Since Wanda's last raid, we were on the last of the good food.
